What a professional website should include before launch

A practical checklist covering speed, security, search visibility, and the pages that build trust.

A website is often the first thing a customer sees of your business. Before you go live, it needs to load quickly, work on every screen size, and make it obvious what you do and how to get in touch.

Speed and mobile

Most visitors arrive on a phone. Compress images, avoid heavy scripts, and test on a real device over a mobile connection, not only on a fast office network. Pages that take more than a few seconds to show content lose visitors before they read a word.

Security basics

Use HTTPS everywhere, keep any software up to date, validate every form on the server, and back up regularly. A site that gets hacked or flagged as unsafe damages trust far more than a plain design ever will.

Pages that build trust

  • A clear home page that explains what you offer in one sentence
  • Service or product pages with plain-language descriptions
  • An About page with real people and real history
  • Contact details and a simple enquiry form
  • Reviews or examples of past work

Search visibility

Give every page a unique title and description, use real headings, and add descriptive text to images. Register the site with Google Search Console so you can see how people find you.
